The Origin Story

Money doesn't grow on trees but...

It all started in an elevator in 2019.

Kevin Benson was talking with an educator from a large school

district about his supplemental retirement savings plan.

Kevin was a former teacher and was now working for Pioneer RESA and he noticed his retirement savings plan was not equal to the one his colleague was offered

–  and that sparked the idea for SERC.

Kevin then talked with numerous consultants, record keepers, and others, looking to give small and mid-size school districts a retirement savings plan that was equal to their larger counterparts.

SERC officially began in October 2022 and has since helped tens of

thousands of educators and school district employees have a better option for their retirement savings.

...and helps educators grow money without the trees!

Kevin Benson served as the Executive Director for Cooperative Purchasing Agency (CPA) and SERC until retiring June of 2026.   Kevin's primary goal in creating SERC was to provide school systems and their employees, regardless of size, access to unprecedented pricing, oversite, and control in the 403(b) and 457 markets.

And he succeeded!
